Tax advice

We provide in-depth advice on all UK personal taxes, then implement that advice as part of our integrated legal services.

UK tax law is not a unified system and it is to be found in scores of taxing statutes and regulations. Specialist advice is therefore required. You may need that advice in planning for the future, or in understanding the implications of what has happened in the past.

What we do

Inheritance tax (IHT)

There are some simple steps you can take to help contain IHT liability. There are, in addition, more complex tax planning arrangements that can be put in place, and setting these up forms a significant part of our business. These arrangements need to be reviewed periodically to check that new law or circumstances do not have an adverse effect.

We do not use financial products for IHT planning although we are familiar with them and, if appropriate, will introduce you to financial advisers who can help.

Capital Gains Tax (CGT)

CGT can arise on the disposal of an asset, and some events are treated as disposals for CGT purposes. Even the sale of your main home can have CGT implications, because it will not always qualify for relief. You will definitely need advice if you sell a business interest. Forward planning can help reduce or avoid CGT.

Income tax and Pre-owned Assets Tax

These taxes impose charges on income and on benefits in kind. We advise on mitigating their impact, often achieving long-term annual savings.

Compliance

If you receive a penalty notice or are the subject of investigation by HMRC we are well placed to help, as we understand how the system works.

0ur clients

Our clients are private individuals of all types, employed and self employed, sole traders and partners, company directors and shareholders, property owners and other investors.

Why Cripps Harries Hall?

Our tax team combines experts from a variety of backgrounds bringing a range of talent and skills together for your benefit.

A significant advantage is that if to act on our advice you need a legal document (a trust, or a property or share transfer, for example) we can deal with that too. You do not have to appoint someone else to do it, saving you time and money.
