Victoria Back and Jason Towell of Cripps Harries Hall were delighted to have acted for Wates Developments Limited on a recent high profile planning appeal win.
The Wates development, at Picket Piece Andover, was for 530 housing units and a local centre offering community facilities and retail units. The section 106 agreement in support of the application involved co-ordinating over 30 parties.
The Secretary of State granted planning permission following an inquiry held by a Planning Inspector. The decision has been widely circulated in the industry and is seen as a landmark decision. In particular, the Secretary of State's reliance on the Government's new Planning for Growth Agenda is seen as the first example of a more positive approach when considering large housing developments. The economic benefits of development are now seen as having far greater influence.
